Goodman to develop new logistics centre for Daimler in Bremen

Tuesday, 02 April 2013

Goodman, the integrated property company that owns, develops and manages logistics space globally, has commenced the construction of a new logistics centre for Daimler AG in Bremen. The development, of approximately 33,000 sqm at Hemelinger Hafen, will assist the production supply of the Mercedes Benz C and other models produced in Bremen. The logistics centre to be known as Goodman Interlink Bremen is being developed on previously disused land that has been converted for logistics use by Goodman.

This is Goodman’s second project for Daimler in Germany and follows our successful co- operation in Malsch, which delivered a 46,000 sqm facility,” said Andreas Fleischer, Goodman’s Regional Director for Germany.

Goodman is constructing the new logistics centre within the immediate vicinity of the existing production facility. The development is flexibly designed and will serve as a drive-in warehouse to enhance the logistics of the production process.

“There is a shortage of space in Bremen and we were faced with the challenge of building the new facility as close as possible to our customer’s existing plant,” Andreas Fleischer explains. “By reactivating a 54,000 sqm disused site, we found an efficient and ecological way to counter the lack of land available for development. This is an approach we will continue to explore in the future.”

The new logistics centre will be used for storing structural pressed parts, such as wings and bonnets. The parts will be delivered to the site from the internal press plant and various suppliers and in turn provided to the nearby production facility in line with demand.

In accordance with the specific requirements of the automotive industry, Goodman is providing the new building with facilities including two side tunnels for truck loading and unloading. The development’s 18 by 24-metre supporting structure will also ensure Daimler’s intra-logistics processes are implemented as flexibly as possible.

As with all new developments, Goodman will apply for silver certification from the German
Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

The new logistics centre for Daimler is strategically located in the Hemelinger Hafen business park, which forms part of Hansalinie. The key benefits for Daimler stem from the new logistics centre’s trimodal accessibility, with the property situated within the immediate vicinity of the A1 motorway and its connection to the inland waterways via Fuldahafen. A railway siding can also be provided to the site.

Separately, Goodman European Logistics Fund (GELF) recently acquired a 40,000 sqm asset in Bremen Hansalinie from the market, highlighting Goodman’s commitment, as a developer and investor in the Bremen region.

Goodman is number one European developer
PropertyEU magazine has named Goodman as the number one developer in Europe for the second year in a row. The ranking, which appears in the March edition, is based on completed projects in sqm from 2010 to 2012.
